Q: When should I apply for a scholarship?

A: Applications for Vocational Scholarships are accepted continuously throughout the year. The 2019 application period for Academic Scholarships is January 1, 2019 - March 1, 2019.

Q: Is the FAFSA required for Mat-Su Health Foundation Scholarships?
 

A: Completion of the FAFSA is required for all Academic Scholarship applicants. It is not required for Vocational Scholarship applicants.

Q: What kinds of programs qualify for scholarships?

A: We give Academic Scholarships to students pursuing degrees in health and human services at accredited colleges and universities both in Alaska and Outside. Some of the majors pursued by previous scholarship recipients include nursing, psychiatry, and pre-med. However, this is not an exhaustive list; we will consider any major that will allow the student to contribute to our goal of making Mat-Su the healthiest borough in the US. The Vocational Scholarship program is available to help pay for training in areas such as medical office professions, addictions counseling, certified nurse assistant (CNA), and other certificate programs that do not result in a college degree, but still fill a vital need in the health care community.

Q: What is the maximum amount of a Mat-Su Health Foundation scholarship?

A: The maximum for Academic Scholarships is $10,000 and for Vocational Scholarships it is $5,000.

Q: How much money is each of your scholarships worth?

A: The amount of each award varies. In 2018, a total of $1 million will be awarded.

Q: When will I find out if I am selected to receive a scholarship?

A: Recipients of Academic Scholarships are notified about 8 weeks after the application period closes. The response time for Vocational Scholarships is typically around 30-45 days.
