GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT: BIG LAKE LIONS CLUB SUMMER FUN HOUSE

The Big Lake Lions Club (BLLC) Recreation Center opened the doors to the Summer Fun House this past June! The attraction aims to give people of all ages an affordable local option for family fun. The BLLC’s Bill Haller designed the Summer Fun House with the goal of providing something for everyone with games like mini golf and soccer pool, a huge obstacle course, giant Connect 4 and more. They also offer multiple options for passes and space for families to sit down and eat inside. “If they want to bring a picnic lunch or pizza, they can do that,” says the BLLC’s Bill Haller.

The BLLC Recreation Center was built in response to losing the local ice rink and not having a place to congregate for community events. Additional building phases evolved along the way and the space now hosts a wide range of functions such as fitness classes, gun shows, community council meetings, AA meetings, sporting events and much more. Haller says of the importance of the BLLC Recreation Center, “It gives us a place to be a community. All the community functions are here.” The foundation awarded a $15,000 Target Wellness Grant to the Big Lake Lions Club to go toward the Summer Fun House.
