A: Completion of the FAFSA is required for all Academic Scholarship applicants. It is not required for Vocational Scholarship applicants.

Q: What kinds of programs qualify for scholarships?

A: We give Academic Scholarships to students pursuing degrees in health and human services at accredited colleges and universities both in Alaska and Outside. Some of the majors pursued by previous scholarship recipients include nursing, psychiatry, and pre-med. However, this is not an exhaustive list; we will consider any major that will allow the student to contribute to our goal of making Mat-Su the healthiest borough in the US. The Vocational Scholarship program is available to help pay for training in areas such as medical office professions, addictions counseling, certified nurse assistant (CNA), and other certificate programs that do not result in a college degree, but still fill a vital need in the health care community.

Applicant need is calculated based on their available resources (expected family contribution, scholarships, Pell Grants, etc.), the total cost of attendance, and other extenuating circumstances that will impact their ability to pay for their education.
