Working towards a healthier, connected, and supported Mat-Su Borough
Good health is fundamentally tied to quality of life. At Mat-Su Health Foundation, we strive to improve the health and wellness of Alaskans in our borough. By providing financial and strategic support to nonprofit organizations offering services and practical solutions to health challenges of our residents, we are building a community where all people have the opportunity for a healthy life.
Here’s how we move towards that vision:
- We are part of the community and we are community-driven.
- We empower and build the capacity of community residents and organizations to help determine and create a healthier community.
- We are data-driven and strategic in deployment of our resources toward evidence-based solutions.
Our Values
The MSHF Board of Directors recognizes that what we value largely governs what we do, why we do it and how we do it. The values we embrace are manifested in our daily actions, decision-making, relationship norms, and even grant guidelines. These values define how we interact with Mat-Su residents with whom we work, live and play. To this end, the MSHF Board of Directors embraces the following values as the foundation of our efforts: Belonging, Collaboration, Equity, Respect, Stewardship, and Transparency.
Our connection to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center
The Foundation has a long relationship with the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. MSHF helps guide the MSRMC’s operations; five of the ten seats of MSRMC’s Board of Directors are selected by the MSHF board. Our partnership is critical to reaching our shared goal of becoming the healthiest borough in Alaska.
Our History
1948
The Valley Hospital Association (VHA) was formed as a nonprofit to operate a local hospital for the benefit of the community – laying the groundwork for what would become Mat-Su Health Foundation.
2003
As the Mat-Su Borough grew, so did the needs for expanded health care and community resources. VHA partners with Triad Hospitals to build a modern regional medical center.
2006
Mat-Su Regional Medical Center (MSRMC) opens, ushering in a new model for community health. Mat-Su Health Foundation is a part-owner of the hospital, and receives funds that are reinvested as grants right back into the health and well-being of Mat-Su residents.
